Alison studied art in the 1980s and is a practising artist. She qualified as an Art Therapist in the 1990s and completed an M.A in Art Psychotherapy in 2011, researching the benefit of art therapy in developing communication with children with Neuro Developmental and Developmental Trauma needs.
Alison is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council HCPC and is a full member of the British Association of Art Therapist (BAAT). She is a listed BAAT Private Practitioner on the BAAT website.
Alison is also professionally qualified as a teacher and has undergone other shorter trainings, including NVR (Non-Violent Resistance) and EMDR therapy (Eye movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).
Alison has worked extensively as an Art Therapist with adults and children. She has worked with adults with Addictions and Mental Health Conditions; children, adolescents and families in the NHS Children and Adolescents Mental Health Services (CAMHS), including looked after children and those with conditions of Autism and Learning Disability (adults and children).
Alison is currently employed as an art therapist working with looked after children and has a private practice working with adults.
Alison works in an integrative way that is grounded in psychodynamic theory. Her approach is person-centred, with the idea that there is an innate ability in everyone to work toward and reach their personal potential for happiness and fulfilment.
Alison is also interested in the relationship between spiritual and psychological well-being. She uses using art making as a mindfulness practice and as creative visualisation for emotional and mental regulation and the development of self-awareness.
Alison is also a qualified and experienced yoga teacher, reiki and energy healer and her art reflects these interests.
